Switch
Ages: 5 to 12 years old
Number of Players: 2 to 6
Materials: Deck of Cards, paper and pencil for scoring.
Skill Practice: Classifying, shifting sets, and basic addition
Goal: To be the first player to get rid of all the cards in your hand for each round in order to accumulate the fewest points. Game play is over once a player reaches 100 points and loses the game.
Set up:
- Deal 8 cards to each player. Place the remaining cards in the center of the play area. This becomes the draw deck.
- Turn over the top card of the deck in the center of the play area and set it next to the draw deck.
Rules for play:
- Players take turns placing a card on top of the upturned card next to the draw deck.
- The card would need to be either a card of the same suit or a card of the same number
- If a player plays an ace, that player can switch the play to the suit of their choice.
- The first player to get rid of the cards in their hand wins the round.
- Continue play until a player accumulates 100 points.
Scoring:
- The players tally the points of the cards remaining in their hands. The game ends once a player receives 100 points
- Number cards are counted as face value
- Face cards are counted as 10 points each
