Classroom Management - Arousal Regulation / Attention |
Aggressive
Strategies for helping a child with the arousal regulation problem of being aggressive include:
- Use nonverbal cues to help redirect the student before the situation escalates.
Example: Physically hand the child another toy and ask him to show you how it works if the toy he has breaks.
Example: Hand the child a schedule and ask him what is next if he gets frustrated with what he is doing.
- Provide a quiet area and an escape route for the student to have a place to go to regroup.
- Use story stips to help the student understand the cause and effects of their actions and to instruct on appropriate social interactions.
