Rules, Rewards, Consequences
Overview
 |
Rewards and consequences must accompany rules in order for them to be effective.

In order to maintain a positive learning environment, you must establish clear expectations for your students. These should be developed with the students on the first day of school. Discuss with the students why rules are needed, why a certain rule might help students succeed, etc. During this time, demonstrate how to follow the rules and practice the appropriate behavior. Reinforce the rules through rewards and consequences. Choose rewards and consequences that are reasonable, logical, and directly related to the behavior and ask for support from your administration and parents.
