Strategies for Inattentive Students
These students have trouble focusing in class. These may often appear dazed or are busy looking out the window.
Break material into chunks
- Alternate between easy and difficult tasks
- Shorten lessons
- Provide frequent breaks
- Use “Give Me Five” procedure
- Seat student close to teacher
- Allow student to use headphones when appropriate
- Make a study area with two file folders taped together
- Actively involve student in lesson
- Play non-lyrical music during seatwork
- Use close proximity
- Use a contract or timer for self-monitoring
