Gripe Box
The Gripe Box is designed to cut back on the number of tattle tales told to you each day. Using a shoe box, simply cut a hole in the top and label it the "Gripe Box." Next to the box, have a supply of scrap paper and a pencil. When a student has a complaint that is not of urgency, he/she should write it on the scrap paper and place it in the Gripe Box.
The teacher then reads the comments in the box daily and responds to that particular student in private. This is essential in order for it to be effective. Students share many things on paper that they might not otherwise volunteer. Also, they can write down their angry words instead of involving other students. This helps the student cool off if someone is bothering them.
