Go For the Green!
How to create:
Glue the sign titled “Go For the Green”* to the top of a large piece of poster board.
- Attach envelopes* corresponding with the number of students in your class to the poster board.
- Place number tags* in the center of each envelope. (You will need to assign each of your students a number. This is mainly for confidentiality.)
- Laminate the poster for durability.
- Slice open the top of each envelope using scissors.
- Cut the red, yellow, and green cards* along the dotted lines.
- Place a green, yellow, and red card (with green on top) in each student’s envelope.
How to use:
- Place the green card in the front of each student’s envelope at the beginning of each day.
- The first time the student violates a rule, have the student place the yellow (warning) card in front of his or her envelope.
- The second time the student violates a rule, have the student place the red (note home) card in the front of the envelope.
- Have the child, if capable, write a note to his or her parents stating the inappropriate behavior. If incapable, the teacher should write a note.
- The third time the student violates a rule, have the student remove all the cards from the envelope (note home and isolate child during lunch). This is referred to as “Lights Out.”
- Reward students whose green cards are in the front of their envelope at the end of each day.
