  2. Attach envelopes* corresponding with the number of students in your class to the poster board.
  3. Place number tags* in the center of each envelope. (You will need to assign each of your students a number. This is mainly for confidentiality.)

  5. Slice open the top of each envelope using scissors.
  6. Cut the red, yellow, and green cards* along the dotted lines.
  7. Place a green, yellow, and red card (with green on top) in each student’s envelope.

How to use:

  1. Place the green card in the front of each student’s envelope at the beginning of each day.
  2. The first time the student violates a rule, have the student place the yellow (warning) card in front of his or her envelope.
  3. The second time the student violates a rule, have the student place the red (note home) card in the front of the envelope.
  4. Have the child, if capable, write a note to his or her parents stating the inappropriate behavior. If incapable, the teacher should write a note.
  5. The third time the student violates a rule, have the student remove all the cards from the envelope (note home and isolate child during lunch). This is referred to as “Lights Out.”
  6. Reward students whose green cards are in the front of their envelope at the end of each day.
