These students misbehave to get extra attention. They want to be in the spotlight, so they cause disruption to gain an audience. They might make noises or use foul language.
Purposely ignore the undesired the behavior
- Give the “eye”
- Use “Give Me Five”
- Work directly with student on difficult assignments
- Modify assignments
- Use praise
- Catch them being good
- Use time out/thinking chair
- Surround student with high achievers
- Provide a consistent routine
- Announce schedule changes
- Use close proximity
- Play a musical signal
- Use humor to reduce anxiety
- Ask the student to run an errand
- Move the student’s desk
- Express an interest in the student
