diagnosis
The diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome involves the same kind of evaluation and assessment of areas of skills as an evaluation designed to diagnose autism. Diagnosis in young children is very difficult because the person's language difficulties are more subtle and difficult to evaluate until their skills are more fully developed. A reliable assessment of the young child's cognitive ability level may also be difficult to make if the child's skills are developing unevenly. A developmental evaluation is still appropriate in order to determine the best intervention for the child. Additional evaluations can be conducted as the child matures in order to confirm/disconfirm the diagnosis.
